HAMILTON a true champion

Curl - - News -

Bethany Hamilton would be one of the most well- known surfers on the planet. Having lost her arm in a shark attack when she was only 13 years old she has continued to show that if you really put your mind to it you can do anything. To most people, the loss of a limb would mean an end to a surfing career, however, Bethany proved that with will and determination you really can achieve anything.

Bethany has written an autobiography and a series of faithbased books, filmed a 30- min documentary, created a line of jewellery, fragrances and cosmetics, and had a full- length film made about her story. She has become a notable motivational speaker as well as a spokesperson for numerous charity organisations. She continues to surf competitively and has also found time to find love.

In 2012, Bethany met Christian youth minister, Adam Dirks on a blind date set up by some friends. After a year together Adam proposed and they were married on August 18th on the north shore of Kauai, Hawaii. Tying the knot in front of 300 family and friends Bethany described the day as “the most amazing day of my life”.

Meanwhile Bethany has continued to surf professionally and is currently ranked 44th on the ASP World Tour.

Bethany is often asked to speak at a variety of events. There would be few stories as inspirational as Bethany’s story of survival. But hers is not just a survival story; hers is a story about living. In no way has Bethany just survived, she has blossomed and provided motivation for so many to overcome obstacles and has become an inspiration to so many.
