Fast food chain may print toys on demand

Fast food chain McDonalds has f loated the idea of putting 3D printers in its stores so it can knock out the free toys it gives away with kids’ Happy Meals on the f ly.

The global firm’s IT manager in the UK, Mark Fabes, says “countless families” have their visit to the burger stores ruined because the toy wanted by their children is not in stock.

He says being able to cook up novelty cartoon characters when required would be an even bigger draw for customers.

His only concern is having machines that can melt plastic near food.

Hew says any moves by the firm to introduce 3D printed technology would require it to be associated with a “robust” 3D printing machine supplier.
