DEMM Engineering & Manufacturing - - BUSINESS PROFILE -

Established in New Zealand 5 years ago, our company manufactures, supplies and services high quality pneumatic and compressed air equipment. Associating ourselves with quality brands like Hitachi air compressor’s, Aignep pneumatic components, and Solimar fluidisers has contributed to our success.

We started manufacturing pneumatic cylinders in our Christchurch workshop in 2009 and this side of the business has grown consistently since then. We have a fully equipment workshop based in central Christchurch to carry out the manufacture of standard ISO6432 and ISO 15552 dimensioned cylinders and custom built items.

We hear a lot about the ‘Christchurch rebuild’ but our growth has come organically through increasing our customer base and offering a superior service to what our customers have been receiving form their existing suppliers.

Our stock levels over the last few years have quadrupled and we are constantly growing or product range in both terms of the quantity of stock we carry and also the selection of products. We are proud to be the largest stockist of pneumatic parts in South Island.

This year we took on the distributorship for the Hitachi air compressor range in New Zealand. Hitachi has been making air compressors for over 100 years and dominate the Japanese market, however they have not ventured into New Zealand until now.

Hitachi has a very strong reputation especially in the construction equipment market and inkjet printers in New Zealand. With so many Chinese imports available on the market it would have been so tempting to jump on this band wagon; however we see that by selling a high quality product, backed up with exceptional local and international service that this value will pay dividends for our clients over the life of the air compressor.

Hitachi were one of the first compressor manufacturers in the world to develop and release a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) rotary screw air compressor, this is not surprising as Hitachi are also world leaders in VSD technology and manufacture their own electric motors and VSD drives.

Their success does not stop here they have world renowned oil free compressors utilizing various technologies from oil free piston, oil free scroll and oil free dry rotary screw packages. This is where Hitachi really stands out from the rest. In industries that require extremely high quality air like the dairy, food manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or in very high use plant that run in excess of 3000 hours per year, their reliability and long service intervals make the Hitachi air compressor the ideal choice.

Our company motto has been ‘Challenge us!’ and we are pleased that we constantly put up to the challenge. One particular instance was when a manufacturing company needed a three-metre stroke cylinder, the client had tried the multinational pneumatics companies and none could offer a solution, the photo shows the company founders Garry and Phill beside the cylinder, supplied within a week of the client’s order!

We are now assembling ISO6432 crimped, round line cylinders from 16mm diameter in our Christchurch based facility and we believe we are the only pneumatics company offering this service in New Zealand.

We do carry stock of standard stroke cylinders on the shelf but our custom built cylinder service is proving to be very popular. We have invested in CNC equipment which has enabled us to build pneumatic cylinders as and when needed this has enabled us to invest our stock in other items such as fittings, filtration, valves.

Garry Robinson, a co-founder, heads the cylinder manufacturing, whilst Phill Ruby looks after the compressor and control side of the business. Our in-house control cabinet design and assembly enables us to provide ‘turn-key’ machine upgrades including PLC controls. It is our flexibility and desire to come up with a custom fit product for our clients that is the key to our success.

ATS Pneumatics have developed the DCAP Dry compressed air package the encompasses Hitachi air compressors, Van Air desiccant dryers and filtration to provide oil free dry compressed air with built-in 100 per cent redundancy, all built into a single frame which has made installations around New Zealand a breeze, we currently have these in dairy factories, meat processing plants around New Zealand, our unique control system eliminates unnecessary starting and reduces the purge air requirement of the desiccant dryers to an absolute minimum whilst maintaining a minus 400C pressure dew point.
