Big savings from energy management

Businesses who wanted independent advice on knocking back energy costs instead of relying on the guidance of energy suppliers with a vested interested, were the inspiration behind Energy Solution Providers. The company specialises in smart metering and energy audits aimed at cutting costs and energy waste for corporate customers and was set up by Jeremy Allen when he realised how little many companies new about the basis of their energy consumption and what they did know was usually based simply on their power bill.

Allen told the New Zealand Herald that the bill told how much energy individual sites were consuming, but didn’t show when, where or what was using the power. This, he said, was appalling, and that this lack of information prevented something being done about excessive use of power.

ESP’s first big client was the ASB. The bank’s electrical usage increased by 28 percent in three years but Allen reckoned he could cut energy costs by 19 percent per square metre with proper metering data and management. The ASB achieved that 19 percent savings within the next six months, an $ 8.5 million saving.

Other ESP clients include Air New Zealand, Auckland Council, Foodstuffs, McDonald’s, Bridgestone and several government ministries.quiry #150836a.
