Simple and compact load moving

Enerpac says its new 600 Series Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) provide a compact solution for transporting heavy loads in industries such as heavy manufacturing, oil and gas and power generation.

Designed for in-plant operation, the Enerpac SPMT’s slim height and compact frame make it easy to lift, manoeuvre and lower a load in a confined space, promises the company. They are ideally suited to moving generators, transformers, compressors, modules, vessels, tank heavy plant/ machines, presses, large assemblies and virtually any piece of heavy equipment.

Each wheel has an individual drive motor, steering actuator and built-in lifting cylinder. This allows the load to be properly distributed across the SPMT and the built-in cylinders can absorb unevenness of the ground and function to lift and level the SPMT for travel. The entire system is controlled by an easy-touse wireless controller.

“The modular design enables multiple trailer configurations, increasing the total capacity of the system,” says Warren Baltineshter, Mining and Integrated Solutions Manager, Enerpac Australia. “A single trailer can transport up to 60t safely and efficiently. Equalised suspension automatically spreads the weight of a load across each of the connected trailers and wheels, to optimise safety and performance,” he said.

Currently there are two standard SPMT models: the cost effective SPMT600-100 has a rack and pinion steering system capable of +/-50deg steering and a maximum configuration of 4 x 2 and the versatile SPMT600-360 has slew drive steering system capable of +/-179deg steering and maximum configuration of 6 x 2.

The SPMT is operated by the Intelli-Drive Remote Controller. This remote controller can be used both hard-wired and wireless (based on radio frequency).

“Enerpac has designed the SPMT to be as easy to operate as a forklift truck. A simple, intuitive controller means that it does not need a specialised trailer operator,” says Baltineshter.

One hydraulic power pack can operate 2-3 trailers maximum depending on the model and it utilises a Tier-4 diesel engine for reduced emissions. For added portability and convenience, two trailers and a power pack can be shipped inside a 20ft. container and delivered right to the customer’s site.

The Enerpac SPMT features a minimised height and slim design, which makes it very easy to operate in confined spaces. Each wheel unit has a steering function as well as a lifting cylinder at its disposal. Wheel propulsion is established by wheel drives.
