Why your child deserves the Kumon edge

-

Schools are the bedrock of New Zealand’s education system, but with the curriculum load increasing by the year, children are finding it difficult to cope. Nimisha Gangoli, instructor at Kumon Manukau Heights Education Centre, understands this.

‘‘I’m mindful as a parent and educator that at some stage during the 13 years of schooling, your child might need a helping hand,’’ she says. ‘‘Our mission is to give students the tools to thrive in school, sail through exams and love learning every day of their lives.

We did come across a bunch of happy, confident and well-engaged children at Kumon Manukau Heights Education Centre. According to Nimisha, there’s no big secret to it.

‘‘Our classes are motivating, fun and engaging, which makes learning a natural, effortless process as it should rightly be,’’ she explains. ‘‘Our methods help students get over their fear of the two key subjects, maths and English, and overcome blocks. Nothing inspires a child like the skills and confidence to succeed on their own.’’

Kumon’s structured programmes are tailored for students of varying abilities. Whether they are struggling or high achievers, students will benefit from developing strong study habits during the early years. Excellent foundations will hold them in good stead in high school – and later in adult life.

For many children, Kumon is the first experience of being disciplined. But they seem to love it and there is a swift transformation in their personality. They begin to enjoy studies and school.

Often what separates the winners from the rest is the extra edge. Some kids may be naturally gifted, other just need help.

‘‘We believe every child and teenager has the right to reach their full learning potential,’’ Nimisha says. ‘‘With that as backdrop, our aim is more than just academic achievement – we believe in the evolution of students into a community of lifelong learners.’’
