Health board’s reaching its targets
Latest health targets show the gains have again been largely maintained by Counties Manukau District Health Board.
CMDHB spokesperson Lauren Young says the DHB topping the table for its targets around smokers is of significant note.
‘‘We achieved 92 per cent of the 90 per cent quit smoking target. We actually did very well for one of the largest DHBs. This means 96 per cent of our smoking population has been offered quitting advice in the last 15 months while in hospital.’’
Health Minister Jonathan Coleman says the health targets show how the DHB is performing around key indicators.
‘‘Progress made in the previous quarter has largely been sustained. These results are a credit to the health professionals in Counties Manukau DHB.’’
The improved access to elective surgery target has again been achieved, with CMDHB surpassing the target by nine per cent.
CMDHB also met the shorter stays in ED target, the immunisation for eight month olds target, but further progress is needed on the faster cancer target.
The results are supported by the $425 million funding increase CMDHB has received over the past eight years.
It will receive an extra $56m in new money this year, taking the district health board’s total funding to $1.4 billion for 2016/17.
