Making trails onPohutukawa Coast
Locals are being asked if they wanted to walk, cycle or ride a horse in the Beachlands and Maraetai areas, where would they want to do it.
The Pohutukawa Coast Trails Steering Group was established in partnership with the Franklin Local Board to come up with ideas to create local and regional connections.
‘‘We have a vision to have a network of trails in and around the Pohutukawa Coast that connect communities and destinations,’’ says Malcolm Bell, the board rep on the group.
There is potential for the Pohutukawa Coast Trails Plan to link into Auckland via the Pine Harbour ferry as well as via road connections and links around the coast to Umupuia and to Clevedon.
To get an understanding of some of the opportunities, the group has done two site visits, including one of the Waiho (Maraetai) Forest, and then walking local trails in Whitford.
On Sunday, September 11, the group hosts two sessions for people to look at suggested trails and links, ask questions and provide input.
They’re at 10am-midday at Beachlands Memorial Hall, 49 Wakelin Rd; and at 1-3pm at Rowan Muir Centre, 211 Maraetai Drive.
