Kingfish put up a struggle

Eastern Courier - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

It was yet another spectacular weekend in beautiful Auckland! In fact the whole week has been amazing for weather and fishing alike.

There are still huge numbers of kingfish everywhere, so amateur and experienced fishos have been having a blast landing these hard-fighting fish.

The best way to hook up has been with a live bait or even a sinking popper.

If you cannot get hold of a livey, make sure you have some piper bait on board. You won’t regret it.

You needn’t go far for this fishing action either, with one angler landing an 18-kilogram kingy at Browns Island!

Snapper fishing has been a bit tougher with plenty of anglers noticing a lot of small snapper around.

The best area for them seems to be at the bottom end of Waiheke Island, or try going out to the Noises with a nice strayline rig.

The top baits are pilchard, piper and mackerel. So, until next week, Tight Lines!
