FUN TIMES AT THE BEACH
The Lions Club of Howick stages its annual Water Safety Day event at Cockle Bay this Sunday. Fun activities include teams rafting, beach races, face-painting, treasure hunt and raffles.
Children will have the chance to practise kayaking with adults, and prizes are prepared for little ones participating in sand-digging. Bouncy castles are set up on the grass for kids to play on. There will be hot chips, sausages, ice creams and refreshments on site. A group from AucklandWater Safety will give talks about, for example, wearing life jackets while going on the water. Howick Lions Club president Grant Taylor says funds made from the event goes to Howick Coastguard, who will be present with a boat. ‘‘We really want the community to come, take part and enjoy,’’
Taylor says. The event is at the end of Shelly Beach Parade on March 19, 10.30am to 2.30pm. Entry is free. East FM is radio broadcasting live from the event.
