Great fishing in all directions

Eastern Courier - - SPORT -

This week’s fishing has been pretty full on!

Almost every angler going out onto the Hauraki Gulf has caught their daily limit of fish within the first half an hour of doing so, which is a pretty amazing feat.

Snapper are in abundance in the Parks Point and Sergeants Channel areas.

When it comes to landing them, bait is first on the menu, but those soft baits are a close second.

Out in the Firth of Thames has also started to fire up, with the 40-metre mark producing a few 20-pounders and some very nice kingfish.

Happy about the harvest, Half Moon Bay resident Leonie Wallace says: ‘‘This is the biggest fish I’ve caught, on our first outing in the new boat.’’

Over the next week we should see even more brilliant catches as our weather is clearing up and calming down.

It’s time to get back out there on the briny and start fishing again! The top baits are pilchard, mullet and squid.

So, until next week... Tight Lines!
