TEEN CRIMS BUSTED
Five teenagers have been arrested in connection with a serious crime spree across Auckland over the past two months. Detective senior sergeant Scott Armstrong says the crimes started in mid-July with a number of aggravated robberies, burglaries and ramraids at service stations, liquor stores and jewellery stores that appeared to be linked. Police launched Operation Sol which led to the arrests of four people aged 17 and 18 and a referral to Youth Aid Services for a 15 year old. Armstrong says Operation Sol was a co-ordinated approach to serious crime across a large area, including teams as far away as Hamilton. ’’These violent crimes can cause significant financial loss and substantial inconvenience for our communities and the offenders’ actions have a ripple effect that flows onto the owners of vehicles that are often stolen to facilitate these crimes. They need to be stopped and held accountable for their actions,’’ Armstrong says.
