Work-ups as far as eye can see

Eastern Courier - - OUT & ABOUT -

Although the weather hasn’t been the best, in those moments of beautiful calm the fishing has been crazy exciting! Big workups are still to be found as far as the eye can see.

The biggest snapper are out wider around 35-55 metres. Tiritiri Matangi is holding plenty of fish, so this is where to start your fishing adventure. For the people using slow jigs and soft baits, with the massive choice in colours and sizes, there’s always one for whatever species you’re targeting. Ask the staff at The Big Fish about which one you should try.

Lots of fishos are catching fantastic snapper and kahawai out of the Waiheke and Coromandel mussel farms. These are notoriously difficult to pull fish from, so make sure you have some strong line on that reel! Also check out Rakino Island, Home Bay, Izzy Bay, the Noises and Hooks Bay. The top baits are mullet, squid and pilchard. So, until next week... Tight Lines!
