A new liquor shop has been given the go-ahead to open in Beachlands’ Pohutukawa Coast Shopping Centre. Beachlands

Fine Wines and Spirits will open next to The Franklin Taphouse and Kitchen. The Auckland District Licensing Committee recently granted the premises an off-licence from Monday to Sunday, 10am to 9pm. The liquor outlet is owned by Sai Suryasri Ltd. At the license hearing, codirector Mr Pusarla told the committee he owns seven liquor stores and has worked in the industry for 14 years. He says there won’t be any RTD displays on the shop floor and he will not sell single RTDs. Police, the medical officer of health and the license inspector did not oppose the application. However, there were nine public objections and one late public objection. Objectors raised concerns about a proliferation of alcohol shops in the area, drunk drivers and antisocial behaviour.
