Community spirit shown through school’s fun day
Pakuranga Heights School is putting on a massive event across the whole campus this Saturday.
It’s the school’s first Parent Teacher Association (PTA) family fun day and has lots of activities for kids and parents.
Dozens of local businesses and community groups will be showcasing, including Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts, GKR Karate, Fencibles Football Club, Auckland Chess Club and many others.
Parent, Amy Maisey, who came up with the idea a year ago, says adults deserve to have fun themselves instead of just ‘‘stand- ing back and watching’’.
They have the chance to try dancing, football, karate and life drawing on the day.
There will also be an outdoor cafe with nachos, Indian food, cake stall, burgers, sausage sizzles, ice creams and drinks.
‘‘This is the biggest idea I’ve ever had. I’m really proud of it,’’ Maisey says.
PTA chairman Rob Findlay says the event is about the kids and the fun.
‘‘[We’d like to] put ourselves out to the wider community and see what we can do for them as well as the school.’’
Pakuranga Heights School PTA Family Fun Day is on Saturday, November 11, 11am-3pm, 77 Udys Road.
Damien, Natalie and Amy Maisey, Rob and Nico Findlay, with Liam Winter and John Ruddell.
