Season continues to deliver

Eastern Courier - - OUT & ABOUT -

We’ve had the pleasure of some really stunning weather, some during the week, but most of it (to the shock and surprise of everyone) last weekend!

With the season heating up sooner than usual, we’ve seen some fantastic fish weighed in, through competitions and just fishos getting out there to enjoy themselves. Out wide past the Noises and out into the beautiful Firth of Thames is where you’ll find the big snapper and kingfish. Work-ups are still there, they are big, full of snapper, kingys, kahawai and loaded with anchovies. Although out wide has been so abundant with fish, so has the shallower water. Places like Mellons Bay, Cockle Bay, Parks Point and Home Bay are all full of fantastic, perfect size eating fish.

This season has also seen a spike in gurnard numbers, one of us Kiwis favourite fish for the dinner table. The top baits are anchovies, mullet and pilchards.

So, until next week... Tight Lines!
