How not to respond to an issue
Fonterra refused to answer any of our questions for this article. When contacted, Liam Baldwin from the company’s media team suggested Element talk to farmers instead: “as they are the ones buying it”. We said that Fonterra was the company selling it. He told Element that was RD1, but then we agreed that RD1 was now a wholly owned subsidiary of Fonterra. He suggested Element calls RD1’s press office, but added that he happened to know their press officer was in Zimbabwe, and there was nobody covering. Element called RD1 anyway, and spoke to their marketing manager Rod Cunningham and asked him to get back to us. He didn’t.
