Pacific pride

All Good Organics have re-introduced New Zealanders to ethically sourced organic dried bananas from Samoa. It’s a small step in restoring the island nation’s export business, which has shrunk dramatically over the past 60 years and is now hopelessly lop-sided – last year New Zealand exported 40 times more to Samoa than Samoa was able to export to New Zealand. The banana chunks are naturally dried as opposed to deep fried, and are made from the Misiluki variety, a sweeter tasting banana than the more common Cavendish. You wash yourself with natural soap products, so why not your pooch? Jules Smith established Wash Bar last year, the allnatural range of soap, flea repellent and dog bedding deodoriser. Soap making was a hobby, but the idea for turning it into a business grew from a bar of soap she made with neem oil for a friend’s dog which was allergic to fleas. From there her business has blossomed. “WashBar products are simply packaged, and we try to eliminate waste wherever possible,” she says. “We are deeply committed to cleaning up our environment and living a sustainable lifestyle.”
