FSC and PEFC – what’s the difference?

Element - - Primary Industry -

The essential difference between FSC and PEFC is that FSC is a global standard administered by parties from outside the industry, whereas PEFC is an umbrella group originally set up by the pulp and paper industry, which adopts the national schemes and standards from each individual participating country. There is disparity between policy from differing countries, so while PEFC certi ed timber from a country like NZ or Norway with relatively stringent standards is a useful guide to consumers, for product that is sourced from emerging markets like Indonesia, there is less certainty.
