Gerard Roofs participated in a “Sustainability Fortnight” in June this year. During the first week staff were encouraged to shrink their carbon footprints by using alternative transport, which was supported by the Travel Wise program from Auckland Transport. Staff also had the opportunity to test-drive a variety of eco vehicles onsite to increase awareness around carbon footprints. It also saw the launch of Fair-trade-fruit-fridays. During the winter months the company supplies All Good bananas not only to promote health and wellness, but to encourage empathy. With a ‘zero waste’ goal in mind, the second week of the fortnight saw the implementation of Gerards’ Waste Management Programme, which was introduced through recycling workshops and staff waste minimisation challenges. Two Sundays were spent on Motutapu Island, where staff planted a total of 1780 trees, the highest recorded team planting on the island to date.
