Beyond recycling is the slogan for Friendlypak – a company specialising in compostable and biodegradable products. Primarily packing for food and beverages, these products eliminate the problems associated with packaging unable to be recycled because it is contaminated with food waste, and food waste contaminated with packaging waste, with the same result. All products are made from renewable and sustainably managed resources (including potato starch, maize starch and sugarcane fibre), contain no toxic ingredients, are traded fairly and reduce dependence on oil. They are complete cradle-to-cradle products. The range of products is mind-boggling: cling film, gloves, aprons, plates, cups, straws, cutlery, meat/fish/fruit trays, bin liners, ziplock bags, bins, nappy bags, dog-poo bags, medical trays, tape, plastic wraps. One of the more recent developments is pop starch, an alternative to polystyrene chips for packing. This company deserves to make a fortune. Ask your local café to convert to this material.
