Elements readers have spoken
Element magazine has been running an online survey at elementmagazine.co.nz on what it would take to get people who are currently cyclists out on the road. By far the biggest response at 70 per cent was for dedicated cycle lanes separated from the road on busy routes. Next at 34 per cent was a simple increase in road-marked cycle lanes, followed by 21 per cent of respondents saying nothing could entice them onto the road as Auckland drivers were too crazy. Five per cent of respondents would cycle if helmet laws were scrapped. Sharp-eyed readers would notice the figures above add up to more than 100 per cent – respondents were allowed to vote for more than one option.
