Four south Florida coun­ties have joined forces to plan for how to deal with the im­pacts of ris­ing seas, higher tem­per­a­tures, and more tor­ren­tial rains.

Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from Mon­roe, Broward, Mi­ami-dade and Palm Beach coun­ties – which are all beach­front, low-ly­ing and sus­cep­ti­ble to the ef­fects of cli­mate change – met to ap­prove a far-reach­ing, bi­par­ti­san Cli­mate Ac­tion Plan that lays out the steps lo­cal gov­ern­ments need to take to make sure the re­gion’s water sup­plies, trans­porta­tion net­works, build­ings and other in­fra­struc­ture can with­stand the com­ing changes. Mean­while, the new Florida Gov­er­nor, Rick Scott, de­nies that cli­mate change is oc­cur­ing.
