New Zealand wool carpet maker recently launched what they are claiming is a world first: carpet backing made from 100% recycled wool carpet – a true cradle-to-cradle process. The product – called Flashbac – will ensure that over 1200 tonnes of used carpet will be diverted from landfill each year. Used wool carpets can be dropped at Envirowaste Centres, where it will cost $75 per tonne to dispose of. This compares to around $200 per tonne to landfill.
