Auck­land com­pa­nies can get a sus­tain­abil­ity edge at the ‘busi­ness only’ af­ter­noon at the Sus­tain­able City Show­case on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 22. Ten ex­pert-led Sus­tain­able Busi­ness Power Ses­sions will pro­vide lunchtime-friendly 30-minute op­por­tu­ni­ties for busi­nesses to up-skill on sus­tain­abil­ity as it ap­plies to fi­nan­cial, so­cial, hu­man and en­vi­ron­men­tal as­pects of busi­ness life. Com­pa­nies can send their ex­ec­u­tives to one or more of the ses­sions be­tween 12:30 and 4pm and take away knowl­edge that will in­form their re­sponse to sus­tain­abil­ity’s grow­ing influence on busi­ness to­day as con­scious con­sumerism im­pacts on all our ac­tiv­i­ties. Learn how to ap­ply sus­tain­abil­ity prin­ci­ples and un­der­stand the num­bers in your lunch hour or af­ter­noon break. There’s no need to book, sim­ply show up. En­try is by koha.

The busi­ness en­gage­ment day at the Sus­tain­able City Show­case cul­mi­nates in the NZI Na­tional Sus­tain­able Busi­ness Awards. The awards event be­gins at 6pm and will be a night of cel­e­bra­tion and en­ter­tain­ment, with MC Te Radar con­tribut­ing his sharp wit to the evening. The awards in­clude the win­ner of the Voda­fone Peo­ple’s Choice, El­e­ment’s Sus­tain­abil­ity Cham­pion, NZ Post So­cial In­no­va­tion and AUT Sus­tain­able De­sign and In­no­va­tion awards. Na­tional win­ners will be cho­sen from the win­ners of the re­gional cat­e­gories in the Sus­tain­able Busi­ness Net­work awards. Com­pa­nies and or­gan­i­sa­tions vy­ing for a na­tional award in­clude Merid­ian En­ergy, Villa Maria Es­tate, and Unitec. Those at­tend­ing the award event have a great op­por­tu­nity to net­work with sus­tain­abil­ity movers and shak­ers. Ge­orge FM will be pow­er­ing up the mu­sic with their top DJs on stage and sus­tain­able food and wine will flow throughout the evening.
