The oys­ters would serve to cre­ate a ‘soft’ shore­line with na­tive or­gan­isms that were heav­ily pop­u­lated in this area. As well as pro­vid­ing habi­tat for small marine life, the oys­ters fil­ter ni­tro­gen and phos­pho­rous and act as wave at­ten­u­a­tors and ben­thic sta­bilis­ers.
