Powered by the sun
A solar project of epic ambition has been completed in Taiwan. The Kaohsiung Stadium is clad in 8,844 solar panels, and will produce as much energy as it uses in illuminating the track and field and running the stadium. The solar panels on the 50,000 seat stadium cover over 14,000 square metres. The green credentials of the stadium don’t end there. Surrounding the structure is seven hectares of green space, with bike paths, sports parks and an ecological pond. Permeable paving is used, and all plants growing in the area prior to construction were transplanted elsewhere.
