Part of the furniture

A veritable institution of Auckland’s most infamous street – K Road – Verona Café is as colourful as the customers who for years have flocked to drink and dine under the glittering sign outside.

Last year Verona Café was given an overhaul by new owners Annabelle Guinness and Phil Randle, and with it has come a new era of accountability with the café’s commitment to becoming a Conscious Consumer café.

Says Randle: “We started off the Leigh Sawmill café, and that was the abiding philosophy up there. We are behind the idea that food is medicine and makes us happy. Everything as much as possible is made from scratch. We bake bread every day, and take as much fresh vegetables, fruit and herbs from people’s gardens as possible.”
