Genesis gets the nod for biggest wind farm

New Zealand’s largest wind farm has been given the go-ahead – but it’s unlikely to be built for a while.

This month the Environment Court granted consent for Genesis Energy’s Castle Hill Wind Farm, north of Masterton.

The consent allows for 286 turbines, with a capacity of up to 860 megawatts in total – enough to power 370,000 households.

The project brings the amount of consented renewable electricity generation capacity to over 4000 megawatts, enough to meet almost 30 years of demand.
