The girl whose face you’ll never see

Af­ter re­ceiv­ing a note­book and pen from a vis­it­ing Ox­fam worker, this 12-year-old girl (op­po­site) be­gan writ­ing mov­ing po­etry about her ex­pe­ri­ences as a young Syr­ian caught up in the bat­tles of her coun­try. She and her fam­ily fled their vil­lage in Syria af­ter wit­ness­ing her school be­ing bombed and many of the teach­ers and chil­dren be­ing killed. They now live on the first floor of a house in Le­banon still un­der con­struc­tion, with seven of them shar­ing one bed­room. She hides her face, as she fears reprisal in the fu­ture if her fam­ily ever re­turn to Syria.
