The girl whose face you’ll never see
After receiving a notebook and pen from a visiting Oxfam worker, this 12-year-old girl (opposite) began writing moving poetry about her experiences as a young Syrian caught up in the battles of her country. She and her family fled their village in Syria after witnessing her school being bombed and many of the teachers and children being killed. They now live on the first floor of a house in Lebanon still under construction, with seven of them sharing one bedroom. She hides her face, as she fears reprisal in the future if her family ever return to Syria.
