Wellington-based ICT business, Boost New Media, has developed ‘Wildlife Tracker’, a new app to help locate the endangered South Island parrot, the Kea. When the user opens the app, they have three options: take a photo, submit a photo from their picture library or view a species list. The app takes the user to a list of endangered birds and animals for identification. The information is submitted into an email which includes the photo, GPS coordinates, date and time, which is then used by the Kea Conservation Trust for data collection. The app is free at the Apple Store, and an Android app is currently in development.
