Winner: Laminex New Zealand – Taupo site

Laminex New Zealand aims to lead the market in environmentally preferable products and sustainable manufacturing practices. It runs a range of internal initiatives at its site in Taupo to help reach this goal. Through its dedication to reducing its impact on the environment, Laminex has been awarded various certifications, including the Environmental Choice NZ and Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody.

In a recent case study, Laminex found that the cost of its recycling efforts came in at $0.009/kg, compared to traditional modes of waste management, which cost an estimated $0.4/kg. When producing thousands of tonnes of waste a year that really makes a difference. In the 12 months from July 2014, Laminex recycled 88 per cent of the 2.5 million kilos of waste it produced.

Laminex New Zealand supports the belief that a company should be responsible for its actions, not just financially but socially, ethically and environmentally. Through constant measurement and evaluation, Laminex is continuously trying to improve its operations and achieve its goal.
