Ooooby is a Kiwi-born on­line food trad­ing plat­form that’s caught on across the ditch and is eye­ing up the US mar­ket.

If ever there was an ex­port com­pany right for the times, Ooooby would have to be it. With sci­en­tists now rec­om­mend­ing ten-plus fruit and veg­eta­bles a day, this web-based fruit and veg­etable home de­liv­ery ser­vice res­onates with the trend to­wards health­ier liv­ing and the per­va­sive use of In­ter­net shop­ping.

Ooooby (Out Of Our Own Back­yards) started out in 2008 as an on­line net­work of food gar­den­ers on Wai­heke Is­land. Founder Pete Rus­sell says the abil­ity to meet, con­nect and share with other food gar­den­ers tapped into an un­met need in the mar­ket which has since re­sulted in more than 5,000 mem­bers through­out New Zealand.

“Ooooby didn't re­ally get off the ground un­til two years later when we iden­ti­fied the next un­met need; easy and af­ford­able ac­cess to lo­cal food,” he says. “So we launched the Ooooby Box lo­cal food home de­liv­ery ser­vice, which has seen steady growth right
