MICHAEL BEEL, HAIR STYLIST

Fashion Quarterly - - Inside -

What is on your reading list right now? Gods and Kings by Dana Thomas, about the rise and fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano. I adore what these designers have done, not only for fashion, but for making people think outside the box. What are you listening

to? I think I’m trying to rediscover my 90s youth, so I’m listening to old school artists like Mel and Kim, early Madonna, En Vogue and George Michael. Anything to put me in a feel-good mood and make me want to move my hips. Friday night food spot? Somewhere cheap and cheerful... I love Mexico! Best fried chicken in town and who doesn’t love a good taco? Last film you saw? The First Monday in May. The scene where they pull the Dior dress out of storage - I die! Dream dinner party quest? I would love to have one more dinner with my mum. She passed away suddenly, right before Christmas a few years ago. To have her in my home, sharing an amazing meal I’ve cooked, and laughing like we used to would be amazing. Favourite quote? “Hair is the strongest personal fashion statement anyone could ever make” – Anna Wintour, or “The higher the hair, the closer to God” – Dolly Parton.
