Feilding-Rangitikei Herald - - Your Paper, Your Place -

The school uniform debate is one that typically causes consternation when a school decides to move away from the mufti status quo.

It’s certainly been a heated situation between parents, children and the board of trustees in Waituna West where it will become compulsory for pupils to wear uniforms from the second term next year.

I think most of us can understand the basic premise of both sides of the argument - it can be expensive and takes away individuality versus smarter looks and school pride.

But what’s been interesting in this case is the response from the school pupils themselves. It’s encouraging to see these children finding and expressing their voices from such a young age.

I hope you’re all managing to get ready for Christmas in what is a chaotic time for most of us.

Remember, the FeildingRangitikei Herald office will be closed from noon on December 23 and reopens on January 9.
