Keep Christ at the centre of your Christmas

Feilding-Rangitikei Herald - - Season's Greetings -

We read slogans like ‘‘Jesus is the reason for the season’’ and we ask ourselves, how the birth of a babe over 2000 years ago is responsible for all the shopping and all the stress that happens at Christmas these days.

The answer: All that has got nothing to do with the birth of Jesus.

Jesus came to give us peace and joy not stress.

Jesus didn’t come into being when he was born in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago. He has always existed he is God the Son.

Because of God’s great love for us Jesus chose to leave all the glory, all the majesty, all the wonder of Heaven, to come to earth as a little Babe so that God could dwell amongst us and show us what He is really like.

In the gospel of John Jesus himself tells us he came so that all who believe in him can have eternal life.

He also says further on in this gospel that he came to give us life and life in abundance.

Christmas provides a time to focus on the birth of Jesus and all that that means. He is the real reason for the season.

To quote a well-used but still relevant saying: ‘‘Wise men sought Jesus and wise people seek Him still.

Jesus promises ‘‘that all who seek him will find him ‘‘

Christmas is a time of rejoicing, a time of fun, a time of family coming together, but in the midst of all this, let us not lose sight of why we are celebrating. The reason for the season is the birth of Jesus the Son of God .

I encourage you this year to make the time to attend a church that celebrates the birth of Jesus and keep Christ in the centre of your Christmas celebrations. Merry Christmas. Jocelyn Stephens Feilding Christian Leaders Network
