Christmas feast for community
A Christmas feast in Feilding will help put a smile on the faces of some deserving people in the community.
The event is being run by the Feilding and Makino Rotary clubs, Manchester House, St John’s Parish and Salvation Army.
Makino Rotary Club member Nigel Ramsden said the lunch was put on for members of the community who were disadvantaged or may spend Christmas alone.
He said the drawcard of the Christmas lunch was great company, Christmas cheer and food.
‘‘The day will start with a Christmas Day service at 9.30am, followed by a morning tea. There’s nothing overly religious about it, apart from the churches have helped prepare it,’’ Ramsden said.
‘‘We’re looking for volunteers to help with the cooking of food and wrapping of Christmas presents, provided by the Salvation Army.’’
Everyone at the feast will receive a present from Santa, Ramsden said.
This year the lunch will cater for 80 to 100 people.
On the menu is roast ham, chicken, lamb and vegetables.
