New Year hits with a bang

Fes­tiv­i­ties in Tai­hape and Manawatu will have peo­ple dis­trictwide wel­com­ing in 2017 with fan­fare.

Feild­ing and Dis­trict Pro­mo­tion project man­ager Raewyn Loader said they sup­ported Palmer­ston North’s New Year in The Square.

There will be bands, laser lights, stro­bo­scopic light­ing ef­fects and fire­works.

New Year in The Square co­or­di­na­tor Tony McLaugh­lin said he would be bring­ing a high­pow­ered line-up of new and triedand-true crowd-pleas­ing favourites for the re­gion’s big­gest end-of-year party.

‘‘The city will host the most spec­tac­u­lar event we’ve ever held - and that’s say­ing some­thing if you re­mem­ber last year’s show, which fea­tured Eclipse, the Pink Floyd trib­ute band,’’ McLaugh­lin said.

In Tai­hape the Gretna Ho­tel is putting on the New Yeahs Eve Rage on De­cem­ber 31.

For the braver Tai­hape pun­ters the Gretna is of­fer­ing karaoke.

A cour­tesy van will be avail­able with pick-ups from 6pm and drop-offs at any time dur­ing the night.

Peo­ple from Ohin­gaiti, Man­gaweka, Taoroa, Moawhango, Mataroa, Waiouru and other sur­round­ing ar­eas can call 06 388 0638 to ar­range their free ride.
