Tai­hape dom­i­nated the King Coun­try Teams Cham­pi­onships to win the teams gross by a mas­sive 62 shots in the 6 man team 54 hole for­mat with all scores count­ing av­er­ag­ing 77 per round.

The 2017 Cham­pi­onship was played at Waimarino with the weather slightly damp for 27 holes on Satur­day but spring like and fine on Sun­day. The course was ex­pertly var­ied with both tee and pin place­ments for each round fit­ting for the oc­ca­sion.

Tai­hape made a fly­ing start with Matt Thomas shoot­ing a 4 un­der the card 68 in the first round well sup­ported by Denny Thomp­son, Koke Cashell, Duane Dick, Matt Booth and Kerry Wells.

The team had a 48 stroke lead af­ter Satur­days 36 holes and had the ma­jor prize se­cured with 1 round to play. This was a su­perb re­sult to de­feat Wait­omo, Te Awa­mutu, Tau­maranui and Pio­pio Aria by such a large mar­gin. To cap it off the Tai­hape 2 nd team con­sist­ing of Alan Thomas, Gary Thomas, Danny Mick­le­son, Pe­ter Valen­tine, Jim Fan­nin and John Gil­bert were 2 nd in the net on 1317 only 9 shots from the win­ner and se­cur­ing the Munro Plate in the process.

On an in­di­vid­ual ba­sis Matt Thomas won the 54 hole gross in 216 (level with the card) Denny Thomp­son was run­ner up on 228 with 3 rounds of 76. Koke Cashell was the se­nior run­ner up Satur­day gross on 151.
