Flawless round

Feilding-Rangitikei Herald - - Taihape -

TAIHAPE GOLF: Duane Dick produced a flawless performance with a bogey free round of 67 off the stick. Dick birdied 2, 13, 14 and 18 along with 14 pars for 46 points in a typical workman-like exhibition.

Playing partner Matt Thomas also matched Dick on the front 9 scoring 35 including birdies on 2 and 3. When Thomas birdied 10 and 11 to go 3 under all thoughts were on Thomas but his round faltered in the later stages as Dick powered on.

However, it was John Booth who scored a respectable 40 points who stole the limelight for all the wrong reasons.

Boat building expert, Booth experimented with the construction of floating automatic trundlers. On the 12th green his automatic trundler headed to the Hautapu River for its maiden voyage under its own steam.

Unfortunately, the test run was unsuccessful with Booth now having to progress his prototype over the festive season. Despite rescuing his trundler and clubs Booth returned to the scene at the conclusion of his round, in wastehigh water, to redeem his wedge which had also been dislodged from his bag in the initial incident.

Back to the golf, Richard Millner recorded 37 points in a good even round. Kerry Wells came in on 36, Koke Cashell and Matt Thomas 35. Two’s: Duane Dick and Gary Thomas both on the 14th .
