Can anyone even believe how hot it is here in our region this week?

The official temperatures have almost reached the mid-30s in the past few days, but we’ve had readers send us pictures showing the mercury rising over 40 degrees Celsius.

I’ve heard fans are in short supply, and we all know that water is a scarce resource that we’re being encouraged to save.

This means our lawns are suffering and so are we!

During the Christmas holiday, I, personally, was naive to the sun’s wrath and was violently sunburnt.

The intense, stinging pain, not being able to sleep or move for a week, and subsequent skin peeling was enough to scare me off going outside without SPF ever again.

So, when seeking out relief from the heat, please remember to wear sunscreen of the highest SPF you can find, cover up and find shade - even if it’s cloudy.

Take it from this pale-skinned woman - sunbathing is not worth it.
