It takes two months for a new be­hav­iour you’re try­ing to adopt – like al­ways eat­ing fruit with lunch or go­ing for a run be­fore din­ner – to be­come au­to­matic. The trick to mak­ing it stick? Do­ing it ev­ery sin­gle one of those 66 days in the same sit­u­a­tion. That’s how it’ll be­come an au­to­matic re­ac­tion (like do­ing a few sit-ups) in re­sponse to a sit­u­a­tional cue (like when the ads come on tele­vi­sion), say UK re­searchers.
