Get your head down for a 45-minute snooze im­me­di­ately af­ter you’ve learnt some­thing new or need to re­mem­ber some­thing, and your abil­ity to re­trieve in­for­ma­tion from your mem­ory will be five times bet­ter. It’s just the right amount of time to al­low a par­tic­u­lar brain ac­tiv­ity called ‘sleep spin­dles’ to kick in. This ac­tiv­ity plays an im­por­tant role in mem­ory con­sol­i­da­tion, say Euro­pean re­searchers.
