How Lo can you go?

Anyone reluctantly avoiding spuds for health reasons can rejoice – you can now enjoy guilt-free potato salads, roasties and tattie-topped pies… within reason. Lotatoes are a new breed of potatoes that look and taste like a regular spud, but with 40 per cent less carbs. In an innovation that has been five years in the making, Lotatoes are created by cross-breeding different varieties. “Recent trends have put potatoes out of favour, often replaced with lower carb or calorie alternatives,” says nutritionist Abbie O’rourke. “Lotatoes put them back at the top of the shopping list. They’re nutritious, delicious and a great source of Vitamin B6, potassium and fibre.” Lotatoes are sold in Countdown supermarkets in 2kg packs.
