CHILLED MULLED CIDER
This summer’s must-have drink
W hile hot mulled drinks are a popular option in the chilly Northern Hemisphere at this time of year, in our part of the world we prefer to toast the festivities with something more befitting our sunny climate. So why not enjoy the best of both worlds by whipping up this summer’s must-have tipple – chilled mulled cider?
Simply combine in a saucepan 1 litre of your favourite flavoured cider with 1 cup of ginger tea. Add ½ cup dark rum and 1 tablespoon brown sugar and stir over a low heat to dissolve the sugar. Segment
1 orange, and add to the pan with 5 whole cloves, 2 broken cinnamon sticks and 2 bruised cardamom pods; slowly bring to the boil. Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely before chilling the drink overnight.
Those who are looking for a non-alcoholic version needn’t miss out; you can replace the cider and rum with your favourite fruit juice.
