Waiuku’s made over

Franklin County News - - News -

Waiuku’s town centre makeover is all but complete.

The $2 million project was due to finish on Friday, after nearly one year of construction.

The town centre upgrade included new footpath paving, landscaping, street and amenity lighting, kerb and channel, street furniture and electrical works. Finishing touches are being applied to the central business district

this week, including professionally cleaning the paving and applying a sealer.

Franklin District Mayor Mark Ball says: ‘‘ This is a major milestone and it’s heartening to see a project of this size and scope come to fruition.

‘‘Thank you to retailers and the public for their support during this project. While works can be messy and an inconvenience, I’m sure the public will agree that it has been an extremely beneficial project for Waiuku, one we can all enjoy for years to come. Waiuku residents now have a CBD they can be proud of.’’

Additional road works on Queen St, not part of the town centre project, will finish in around three weeks.

Stage two of the upgrade, which includes lower Queen and Bowen streets, is an item in the long-term council community plan, subject to approval.
