Monique gives new meaning to portraits

Franklin County News - - News -

Getting your portrait done takes on a whole new meaning with artist Monique Hansen who transforms household goods into people; a unique talent that is on display at Artefact Gallery Shop at Franklin: The Centre.

Monique Hansen’s approach is a little different, she asks subjects to donate items that allow some insight into who they are as people.

But that is not all, Monique also interviews them to shape a clear idea of their persona.

With the materials she constructs a composition that represents them in some way, so that by looking at the work you can derive clues about the type of person they are.

Due to the unusual way Monique works she is in constant need of new subjects to ‘‘pose’’ for her by giving her items they have hoarded.

Monique would like to work up to a solo exhibition at The New Zealand Steel Gallery but she does not have enough people to create work from.

She is seeking people to participate in this project with her. If you would like to be part of this art project please contact Suzette on 09 238 8899.
