Cars thefts on rise

Car thefts and goods stolen from in­side them are on the rise and have po­lice so con­cerned they have is­sued a warn­ing to Franklin peo­ple.

They urge own­ers of ve­hi­cles to be ex­tra vig­i­lant when it comes to re­mov­ing prop­erty from parked cars, as po­ten­tial thieves will be tempted if valu­able items are vis­i­ble.

Pop­u­lar tar­gets are hand­bags, purses, lap­tops, and car stereos.

Theft of cars is up through­out Franklin, with all ar­eas of the district at risk. Cars parked in drive­ways and on the road are par­tic­u­larly be­ing tar­geted, with of­fend­ers not be­ing afraid to break into homes to steal keys to take their tar­get.

Po­lice ask car own­ers to se­cure their ve­hi­cles where pos­si­ble in locked garages and con­ceal keys in­side their home, out of view.

Pukekohe po­lice are fol­low­ing leads into who is re­spon­si­ble for the rise in car thefts in Franklin.
