Born in special surroundings
There was special significance to the celebration of the birth of a baby boy at Pukekohe Maternity Hospital last week.
Blake Steger-Hood was born on Wednesday morning and will join his older brother Jack and cousin Charlotte to be born in the maternity ward that their great-great-grandfather, George Parvin, founded.
The maternity ward, named Katherine after George’s wife, was completed in 1953, unfortunately two years after Mr Parvin died.
The children’s grandmother Rosemary Hood said while Mr Parvin did not get to see the completion of the ward, he would have been pleased and the family is very proud.
‘‘My mum was so proud of the things he’d done and that we are all part of the history of Pukekohe,’’ she said.
