Born in spe­cial sur­round­ings

There was spe­cial sig­nif­i­cance to the cel­e­bra­tion of the birth of a baby boy at Pukekohe Ma­ter­nity Hospi­tal last week.

Blake Steger-Hood was born on Wed­nes­day morn­ing and will join his older brother Jack and cousin Char­lotte to be born in the ma­ter­nity ward that their great-great-grand­fa­ther, Ge­orge Parvin, founded.

The ma­ter­nity ward, named Katherine af­ter Ge­orge’s wife, was com­pleted in 1953, un­for­tu­nately two years af­ter Mr Parvin died.

The chil­dren’s grand­mother Rose­mary Hood said while Mr Parvin did not get to see the com­ple­tion of the ward, he would have been pleased and the fam­ily is very proud.

‘‘My mum was so proud of the things he’d done and that we are all part of the his­tory of Pukekohe,’’ she said.
