Biggelaar scores a hat-trick for Bombay
Bombay 43 Papakura 7 Bombay are looking to improve on the good finish in last year’s McNamara Cup and made the best possible start at home – beating newly promoted Papakura.
Jeremy Biggelaar was one of the weekend’s most prolific points scorers with a hat-trick of tries, while Cody Hall had a great day with the boot, landing five conversions and a penalty. Mosese Poulhila scored Papakura’s first try back in the top grade but it was the final quarter where Papakura fell away.
‘‘We competed well in the first half but ran out of gas in the last 20 minutes,’’ coach Hardy McLean said. ‘‘ Our forwards went very well but there was a lot of wrong option-taking.’’ McLean felt the result had given them something to work on and the team were staying positive ahead of next weekend’s clash with Patumahoe.
Bombay 43 (S Toto, J Biggelaar ( 3), J Heta, D Chatterton tries; C Hall 5 cons, pen) beat Papakura 7 (M Poulhila try, P Elma con).
